Sunday classics

Some one who is roughly my age recently said that women of his (our)age are "too old." I disagree. While I could point to so many women around me (including the lovely Reddess of R) to make my point, this is Sunday and that means videos of live music here on the old blogspot. So, in keeping with my "quirky chick" singers, theme, I offer three female performers who are older than me, but definitely not too old.

First, Emmy Lou Harris (61 this year)

My own special favorite, Chrissy Hynde (57 this year)

And for Illusory Tenant, Lucinda Williams (55)

Rick included Chrissy because she's wearing her dog collar.

Hmm. Sounds like a post I had at Daily Scoff. The post was certainly about "older women". Anyway, the one problem I have with many celebrity women is all the "work" they'll have done to preserve their looks. Yes, some come from better genetic pools than others, but none of them look better after all the work they've had done. To me, anyway. Truth be told, though, there are many "hot" celebrities about the 50 mark. My list would include: Gena Davis, Lena Olin, Rene Russo, Michelle Pfieffer, Nancy Wilson, and one of my all time "if you ever meet this person you have my permission to get it on with him/her" favs, Jamie Lee Curtis.

Of course, my wife trumps all these. But in the spirit of discusion. Except for Jamie Lee. Although, I haven't met your wife . . . and red hair . . .

The reason that I picked these women is that they are great musicians and they have not altered themselves in some wildly unnatural way.

The truth be said, I understand about Jamie Lee Curtis. One thing I like about her is that she had the guts to be photographed unaltered. She still looked great but the important message was that real women - the ones we know and love - also look great as opposed to some digitally altered image that doesn't exist.

I don't like to go too far down this road since physical appearance only means so much (and its not as much as we think it does), but if you are a 52 year old single guy (as I am not - well that's half right, I am 52) who doesn't think that there are all sorts of attractive and fascinating women your own age, you are missing something.

Fair enough. As I said, good to look at, but not much else. The young ones, that is. I'll take a mature lady any day. Just give me one that doesn't obsess with needing to surgicify (I think that's a Bush term) her looks to try and hide her age. It almost never works. Plus, those that do are typically not much brighter that the 20 year old vacants.

So, I'm with you on this. And, I pity the single 50 year old guy who finds it necessary to date much younger women. You're right. He's missing out big time.

Dog collars? Rick? You?

I suspect most 50-year-old guys who find it necessary to date much younger women can't... handle a full growed woman.
