The song is about some balloons that get released and start a nuclear war. It was recorded in English as 99 Red Balloons but the English version is a different song and not a translation of the German (which would not have fit the music). The band was not entirely happy with the English version so I stick with the original. You ought to be considered for the Nobel on your own terms. I think its fair to say that the German version is darker.
