Monkeys of the world, unite!

The Socialist Party in Spain wants to grant human rights to the great apes - chimpanzees. bonobos, gorillas and orangutans. The bill notes the genetic similarity of humans and these apes and is apparently an attempt to implement the program of the Great Ape Project, demanding "the extension of the community of equals to include all great apes: human beings, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orang-utans.”

Speak for yourself. I mean, I know some guys who thought the late great Samson (pictured above) resembled their mothers-in-law, but that was never really fair. The last 1% of DNA really makes a difference.

I don't know exactly what rights the apes would have, but, given the EU, I suspect that it includes same-sex marriage and eight weeks of vacation.

Of course, this isn't really about great apes of which I suspect there are about six in Spain; none of whom have been mistreated. Its about asserting a materialist view of the world. We're just naked apes.

As another blogger pointed out, a fetus is 100% genetically similar to humans. Too bad its right to life is less important than the rights of apes.

The monkeys will still get to ride motorcycles, right?
